Living for Jesus: Beyond the Spiritual High
By Luke Trouten

Emotional nights of life-changing spiritual decisions are some of the most exciting times in youth work. It is the weeks and months afterward, however, that determine if a student really will be committed to Christ.

Moving from the “spiritual high” to the daily relationship is a process of learning about Christianity. In Living for Jesus, Speck attempts a 200-page course in Christianity. A new edition of a 1991 book, a lot of the language feels stuck in the last millennium, and anyone who didn’t grow up in the church will be stifled by the “Christianese.” It may be a good study aid, but not quite right to hand to the teen who just gave her life to Christ.
