  • From Flannel Graphs to Fog Machines: A Father's Thoughts on His Son's Generation of its Overemphasis on High-Tech Toys
    Steven Todd
When the young man complained to his up, the doctor asked about environmental exposures to allergens. He answered, “Sure. I was playing bass guitar for the youth service and the fog machines were too close to me, but I didn’t notice because of the laser lights.” It doesn’t seem that long ago when “youth ministry” involved setting up folding metal chairs in the church basement. • Grass Isn't Always Greener
Speaking of depression, a study by the White House Office of National Drug Policy discovered pot-smoking teens are more than twice as likely to battle dark thoughts. Moreover, depressed users were more likely to become addicted to the stuff. “Marijuana is a more consequential substance of abuse than our culture has treated it in the last 20 years,” says John Walters, director of the office. “This is not just youthful experimentation they’ll get over as we used to think in the past.”
